Mr. Mosopefolu George – Honourable Commissioner
Mosopefolu George was born in Lagos on the 20th of February 1974. He attended the Corona School Ikoyi, and moved on to the Federal Government College Ijanikin, Lagos for his secondary education. Upon attaining his O’ Levels, Ope briefly studied at the University of Lagos, before proceeding to complete his degree at the University of Leicester, England where he attained a 2.1 (upper), in Business Economics in 1996.
Ope thereafter obtained a Master of Science (MSc) degree in International Business from the prestigious Manchester School of Management, at the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology (UMIST).
Ope began his Career at Citibank N.A in London in 1997, where he joined the Global Markets team, with specific responsibilities for the emerging markets of Central, Eastern Europe, Middle East, and Africa. He specialized in emerging markets loan syndication and Project Finance. Ope moved on to Join the Corporate Finance Team at KPMG, London in 2001, where he specialized in various private finance initiative projects. At KPMG, he had the responsibility of advising multinationals, governments, and the public sector in the health and utilities industry, on the structuring and raising of finance. Ope Left KPMG in 2004 and started a Job with SAGEM France in the Telecommunications industry.
In 2007 Ope was appointed as the Senior Special Assistant on Economic Matters to Gov Babatunde Raji Fashola (SAN). A position he held until 2009, when he was reappointed as the Acting Managing Director of Lekki Worldwide Investments Limited (the Lagos State Government’s investment vehicle for the Lekki Free Zone). Ope was at Lekki worldwide Investments Limited until 2015.
Ope remains a visionary leader with an illustrious career in the realm of Corporate Finance and Public-Private Partnerships (PPP). In 2017, he was appointed as the Director General of the Office of Public-Private Partnerships (PPP) where he embarked on a transformative journey of constructive collaborationbetween the public and private sectors.
Under his astute leadership, the Office of Public-Private Partnership witnessed significant growth and advancement in fostering mutually beneficial partnerships. Ope’s strategic and innovative approach led to the successful execution of vital projects that have positively impacted the Lagos socio-economic landscape.
Throughout his tenure as the Director General, Ope exhibited an unwavering commitment to excellence, ensuring transparency and accountability in all Lagos PPP endeavours. His remarkable ability to navigate complex challenges and engage stakeholders from diverse backgrounds earned him widespread respect.
In recognition of his contributions to the development of PPP initiatives, in February 2022, Ope was once again reappointed as the Special Adviser to the Governor of Lagos State on Public-Private Partnerships. In this elevated role, he continued to drive the strategic vision for PPP projects, providing expert counsel to the government and fostering an environment conducive to sustainable growth and progress. Ope’s expertise in public private partnerships has been instrumental in attracting investments, boosting infrastructure development, and delivering essential services to the community.
As the Special Adviser to the Governor, Ope remained committed to fostering innovation, inclusivity and responsible governance in PPP projects. His profound impact on the Lagos socio- economic frontier and his ability to forge strong partnerships, made him an invaluable asset in advancing the collective welfare of the people and driving progress towards a brighter future for the people of the centre of excellence.
His remarkable achievements as the Director General of the Office of Public-Private Partnerships (PPP) and the Special Adviser to the Governor of Lagos State on Public-Private Partnerships spoke volume and this in no time led to his appointment and inauguration as the Honourable Commissioner, Economic Planning and Budget, Lagos on the 16th of September 2023.
A Manchester United fan, Mosopefolu is happily married to Oluwafemi George, and blessed with children.
